Nailed It Episode Twelve: Hair Mask

Okay…so…I’m all about organic and DIY. Last week was show week. I try to stay “up with the times” so I listen to the cray ideas my student have. For example, did you know that there are hair masks similar to face masks? It helps to revive your hair and keep it shiny and soft. So after the show week last week, my hair was dry and disgusting. I thought I’d give this DIY hair mask a try.

There are several options to try according to Pinterest.

I went with the “extra conditioning” option with the honey and coconut oil. I mixed it all over my hair, my scalp, and my bangs. I let it sit for about an hour and washed it. Twice.

It did indeed feel softer. I couldn’t wait to blow dry it and feel it. I dried, and dried, and dried. It’s like, it couldn’t get dry. Y’all…my hair was covered in grease, and I could t get it out! I hopped bag in the shower And rewashed it. Nothing.

I slept in it wet after the third wash. I woke up this morning, and it looked atrocious. I french braided it, hated it, and took it down. In the ten minutes it took me to braid and unbraid, my hair crimped. On its own. I put it in a bun and went to school, hoping no one would notice.

By third block, a student came over to tell me something at the piano. She put her palm on my head and said, “Why does your hair feel like cheap weave?” 🤦🏻‍♀️ Several students joined her to see what “cheap weave” felt like. I told them all what happened. One student text her mom to see what could get it out. She suggested Dawn dish detergent because it’s an anti-greaser.

For the record, after two washes with the detergent, I smell like Dawn and look fabulous.
